Currently we have no bipedal children, just the quadruped variety with the pointy and floppy ears.  But we love them just the same.  One day we will have children of our own to complement our family and fill our lives with mischievous excitement.  For now, here is the rundown on our quadruped children.

Nikki:

Nikki

Nikki

She was born sometime in Spring of 1998 around Tuscaloosa, AL.  She first showed up at the animal shelter Nathan was working at part time while he was in school.  She was brought in by an older lady who claimed she was shepherd mix that was a stray.  Now we do not know if she was a stray or not, but Nathan took a liking to her right away.  She had beautiful brindle coloring and she was athletically build.  She reminded him of the cattle dogs and australian shepherds.  However, she had spots on her tongue like chows and had the body type like a pit bull.  To this day we believe she is a pitbull/chow mix and other than being dominant with other dogs she is the sweetest pooch and absolutely loves people.  She really got the best of both breeds.  She’s been with us for 10 years now and is still going strong despite health issues that have cropped up…including trying to kill herself with an ivy type plant.  Nathan has always said she’s a cow in the body of a dog.  She will be sorely missed when her time comes.  Until then, we will cherish her and enjoy the time we have.

UPDATE – our poor little girl passed away this spring 2010…we miss her every day.

Dozer:

Dozer

Dozer

The newest addition to our home, Dozer was born in December 2007.  He was originally adopted by a young gentleman who was the son of Nathan’s coworker.  When circumstance hit, this gentleman had to give up Dozer and luckily we were there to take him in.  He played well with Nikki and there were no dominance issues.  It was a good match.  Since we have had him, he has been the sweetest dog on the planet.  He’s a little timid at times and doesn’t always know what to do around new people, but once he knows they are ok he goes in for the love whoring he is so well known for.  It was while Nathan was working at one of his jobs that he found out his boss actually owned two of Dozer’s litter-mates.  Nathan’s boss is now his friend Domenique and he is able to see Dozer’s litter-mates, Hank and Willy, plenty.  Unfortunately, Hank has a more aggressive temperment than Willy and tries to put Dozer in his place, so hanging out with the three of them is near impossible unless we let them all figure it out.  More than likely Dozer would end up hurt due to his easy going and timid temperment.  For now, he will have to be ok with playing with Nikki and constantly being loved on by his parents.  Such a ham!
