Nathan out fishing on Lake Sullivan

There’s not too much to say about me.  I’m a white dude who likes technology and the outdoors.  Most people would think that’s more like a split personality disorder than reality, but it’s true.  I grew up around electronics because my father worked for Intel for almost a quarter of a century, but we always went camping, fishing, and hunting during the summers.  I grew up appreciating the outdoors and looking forward to every moment I could spend there.  It’s peaceful and relaxing, but requires stamina and a desire to let go of the typical city things like showers, cleanliness, laziness and paved roads.  Truly experiencing the outdoors isn’t for the feint of heart, but it is so rewarding in the end.  I hunt and fish as much as I can and do the hiking, camping and biking whenever possible…usually as an accompaniment to the hunting and fishing.  All I can say is, I have to be within short driving distance of mountains or I will go insane.

As for the technology side of things, I am very interested in robotics.  In particular, I am interested in semi-autonomous robotics.  I think once researchers are able to mimic natural animal movement, there will be a whole new generation of robots that can go anywhere people can, and some that we can’t.  There are already researchers working on quadruped robots that mimic dogs and horses.  The biggest single issue that has to be resolved is a power device that is light enough and long lasting enough that it can continue to power such robots for long periods of time without needing recharging or replacing so soon like today’s current batteries.  One day I hope to come up with search and rescue robots that can search forest areas and find lost or stranded people.  Wish me luck!

I also like guns and have been working with my father, who’s a gunsmith, to come up with a compact hunting rifle with sniper rifle accuracy and quality.  The closest I have seen is a rifle by Desert Tactical Systems.  Only problems are, it’s about $4k too much and it’s only right handed.  Don’t they know there are a lot of left-handed people out there??  Anyway, one of these days I hope to have it done and I will post it when I do.

So that’s about what you get at this point.  I am a little paranoid to put too much about myself online since there’s so many people stealing identities these days…especially with an ongoing recession.  If you want to know more, ask.  If I know you or get to know you, you’ll learn more as time goes on.  Here’s a recap in case you missed it.
