Tomorrow is the last day of late archery whitetail season in Eastern Washington. I have been at a training camp for my new job and have been unable to make use of the weeks to go hunting. It all falls on the weekends and even then I don’t have the full weekends to hunt. But this last weekend, I did my very best to get out there and finish out the season with a successful deer hunt. Snow on the way up to scout
I don’t know where all the elk have gone but they seem to have been replaced by a ton of moose. So yeah, elk modern firearm season is well under way (make that 3 days in out of an 8 day season) and they have managed to evacuate Eastern Washington forests. As my last post noted, I did some scouting. I went out again on Friday to do some last minute scouting to see if I could find any sign of elk. Believe it or not, it decided to snow! I decided to go scouting yesterday in an effort to check out some area that was rumored to have a heard of elk around it. I had checked out some of the area a couple years ago when my wife went with me to do some elk hunting. Read the rest of this entry »

I have to say that this year has been one of the best hunting years for me to date. Granted, I haven’t done all that well but that’s not to say I haven’t had a plethora of opportunities around Spokane, WA this year. My buddy Brian and I have also had the opportunity to come up with more and more hunting spots to go to. It’s been quite awesome all things considered. On a pleasantly unexpected note, Read the rest of this entry »

The last few weeks have been kind of interesting for me. I won unemployment, I nearly acquired another job, I didn’t manage to get a deer with a bow (yet), and turkey hunting started. So it’s been fairly eventful and not the best of times, but that’s life. Cliche I know. How happy we are is directly related to how we deal with the situations in our life. Ok, that’s my prophetic little point for the day. I don’t have many, so take note.
On track with this post though, I took a trip to wonderful Yakima, WA yesterday. Well, I guess I can’t call it wonderful because I don’t know the place that well. In truth, I am sort of frightened of the place. Read the rest of this entry »

So I have been making a batch of mead lately. It’s my first batch of mead so far so I had high hopes for it. Yup, that was past tense. I still reserve a little hope for it, but I have my doubts. So here’s the story.
I started my mead around July 15th. Don’t remember the actual date. I decided to do a basic batch for my first time. I had gotten a bunch of clover honey…the generic stuff you can get just about anywhere. This particular stuff came from Costco and Safeway I think. About 14.5 lbs all together. I did a 5 gallon batch. The batch was actually a little lighter than the recipe I was following because we had managed to use some of the honey in the mean time. I think I was down to about 12.5 lbs of honey at that point. Read the rest of this entry »

So I went deer hunting this last weekend with my buddy Brian. It was definitely a hunting trip like no other I’ve had before, that’s for sure. Brian and I have been chomping at the bit to go hunting this season in Eastern Washington. We met last year while elk hunting up on Mt Spokane in the Inland Empire Paper company land. Since then we’ve become very good friends, much like brothers. So I digress. I had decided to do archery this year instead of the regular modern firearm. I had bought a bow last year (a Bear Done Deal) but hadn’t practiced enough with it prior to the season opener. This year I was determined to take it out. Deer willing, I will get my buck this season. Read the rest of this entry »
